Clemson’s “Summer in Genoa” architecture abroad trip consisted of 5 weeks in Genoa, Italy, studying culture and architecture around Italy. This experience was like no other, and I was able to travel throughout Italy with Clemson’s architecture program. A typical day looked like walking through the city of Genoa, examining and sketching details of historic architecture, and learning why things were made the way they were.
The semester-long project was an immersive, creative, technical, and logistical task — creating a fully handmade model of a conceptual shop and living area that would exist in Genoa. The process included lots of trial-and-error, intricate paper work, printing designs on various types of paper, researching, and collaboration.
The Garden Nook is a gardening shop on the ground floor of the crowded streets of Genoa, where customers purchase greenery to decorate their homes. The shop owner inhabits the top three floors, as the entire building is a cohesive design revolving around green spaces and bright light.
