This drawing is a detailed observational study of two natural forms—a pinecone and tree bark—rendered in charcoal and white pencil on 32” × 24” gray paper. The project focuses on accuracy in proportion, value, and spatial depth, with careful attention to how light interacts with complex, textured surfaces.
Using the paper’s mid-tone as a foundation, I built contrast through layered charcoal shadows and precise white-pencil highlights to create a full range of values and dimensionality.
